The "Ahead of the Curve Report," highlighting the learning that flowed from nonprofit-led peer exchange on September 28, 2016, is now available.
Ahead of the Curve, a coalition of nonprofit umbrella groups, including NYCON and Governance Matters, staged its first symposium last fall to discuss perspectives about defining, assessing and managing risks at nonprofit organizations. On September 28, 2016, a consortium of capacity building organizations held a symposium in New York City to “advance [the] collective knowledge of the discipline of risk management” within the nonprofit sector. A cross sector of about 200 people attended, including nonprofit executives, managers, and trustees as well as representatives of capacity building organizations, consultants and academics.
This report highlights the learning that flowed from this first-of-its-kind event. Participants collectively shared insights drawn from their own organizations about many aspects of risk evaluation and management. The day yielded key takeaways about positive risks that nonprofits can take, as well as the need to build risk management into the daily operations of an organization. In 2017, the Ahead of the Curve group continues to meet and discuss ways to collaborate more.
